This new notification feature is being added to provide the community with a 24-hour, 7 days a week tool to find out about airfield construction projects at Tampa International Airport that may require aircraft to use the east runway (19L/1R). This notification will also enable the community to find out when the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will be using cranes to construct the Tampa Airport Interchange Project at the entrance to the airport. This action usually results in the closure of the west runway (19L/1R), because construction is actually taking place in the approach to the south end of this runway. When this is necessary, the east runway 19L/1R must be used. The Aviation Authority feels it is important to get the word out to the community that they will be experiencing aircraft noise over their neighborhoods when aircraft must use runway 19L/1R due to construction. Based on the FDOT's construction schedule, this situation will have to occur over the next 3 years.
